quoting orchids:

hey! are you clicking the save button at the bottom after saving and/or you getting any error messages?

yeah I'm clicking the save button but I'm not getting any error messages. It simply refuses to update when I refresh

hmmm. are you waiting for the button to turn back from grey -> blue again? you might just be leaving the page before it fully updated.

do you have a video perhaps of the problem?

quoting sebastian:

I tried messaging @Orchids to ask something, but I just got sent to a page that said "something went terribly wrong here".

If I go to https://basementcommunity.com/messages, I do see that a message has been opened. However, when I click this message to view more information, I get the same error as before.

hmm that's a weird-sounding one. could you provide what browser/device/OS you're on? are you able to view the message now or is it still persisting?

i can confirm i did get the message, so that's strange that'd you'd be seeing errors after sending

I'm on a ThinkPad T440S, with Fedora Workstation and Firefox 112.

The same error is persisting.

edit: actually nvm i can successfully reproduce it - i'll take a look tonight!

i'm guessing this might be a caching issue with the API, nothing you can do about this one

edit2: found the bug - i'll deploy the fix sometime tomorrow and we should be all set! thanks for your patience!

oh also something weird's going on with timestamps. that post i just made showed up 5 minutes into the future

latest post display says "by codl, in 5 minutes"

i don't think it's on my end, my computer's synced up with ntp and time.is tells me i'm 3 ms off

yep - this one's a server-side issue I haven't gotten around to looking into just yet. All the datetimes for post creation or post updating are stored in UTC time and then converted in the client to your timezone you set in your account settings. But I think something is up with how i'm storing them because in the database, they seem to be a few minutes off, even before the conversion, so it's possible the library i'm using has some quirks or my server time might be off? i'm not totally sure just yet, but I can prioritize getting this fixed. thanks for the report!

yeah they were an idea that.....hasn't quite made it into the UI yet. mainly because i want to add some fun thread icons that aren't just a duplicate of the forum icons, but I haven't actually gotten around to doing that yet.

but i still want to make them required for the eventual time that I do render them in the UI

hi, me again, markdown quotes are fucked. paragraphs are laid out next to each other horizontally for some reason

Paragraph 1.

Paragraph 2.

Paragraph 3, this one is long. Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Vivamus et imperdiet ipsum. Donec dignissim pretium tincidunt. Praesent accumsan mattis ullamcorper. Aenean a lobortis urna, at mollis nisi.

Paragraph 4

if you want line breaks between the paragraphs, just end the line with a forward slash like so:

hello world
it is me

hey ya'll - i'm currently aware of an issue where the CSS is causing the page to have a quick flash of unstyled content when navigating around the site. i'm working on a fix right now and going to spend the weekend making sure everything looks okay before deploying it by the end of the weekend.

in the meantime, feel free to post here about any weirdness you see when navigating around!

Posts with multiple quotes are breaking. See post #1516.

i think that's just because you closed the quote with <quote /> instead of <quoting />

Not quite a bug, but an interesting "feature(?)."

It seems numbers in the url can be parsed in a number of formats.

For example,

https://basementcommunity.com/threads/15 https://basementcommunity.com/threads/0xf https://basementcommunity.com/threads/0o17 https://basementcommunity.com/threads/0b1111 https://basementcommunity.com/threads/0.15e+2

all link to the same thread.

Don't see how this could be abused in any way, but it's kinda neat.

blame javascript 🤷‍♀️.

Number("0xf") Number("0o17") etc, etc

looks like JS parses them all that way when being converted to a number
