it's labor day weekend ya'll:

what are you doing this weekend? how many hot dogs are you eating?

i'm doing a few things: seeing a comedy show, going to a NWSL game (san diego vs. houston) and hopefully hitting the beach for the first time this summer

HOWDY, fellow laborer!

In addition to being a homebody who's trying to stop wasting money on old games and stuff on 2 wheels, I'm still not entirely recovered from breaking my hip and so I'll be planted at home. Good enough shape to do some chores and home projects, work on some school assignments, play a buncha vidya games...

Looks like Vegas could be raining all weekend so not a bad time to stay indoors.

how was the hurricane there? i heard the only thing that got hit bad was the main strip?

quoting flannelcoat:

I started watching Season 1 of Survivor. I'm catching up with a few friends for lunch and then just hanging out at home. We're having cloudy weather for the first time all year. It's a good weekend to stay inside and watch some good TV and catch-up on reading.

same here weather wise. We had like a good couple weeks of hot weather in southern california and now it's back to super mild temperature. somehow the east coast has been consistently hotter all summer.

Been a pretty relaxed weekend so far.

Friday was pretty normal, came home from work and cracked open a bottle of tequila.

Saturday was my normal shopping trip, followed by the regular chores. I meant to make pork fajitas, but got lazy, and went into snack mode instead.

Yesterday was spent playing Wasteland 3, watching Kolchak: The Night Stalker, Killer Condom, and The Menu, while making chicken and sausage gumbo.

Not a whole lot planned for today, I want to work on unpacking, but we'll see. For the menu tonight I have Bleu is the Warmest Cheese Burger from the Bob's Burgers Burger Book that I found unpacking last weekend.

Not a yank so I don't know what labour day is about. What does it celebrate? (Labour perhaps?) My country celebrates in May.

originally yeah, it was rooted in celebrating organized labor and unions because i guess of tensions in the labor force.

but now much like our independence day, it's mostly just a day to have a BBQ.

A lot of conservatives in the US (like conservative Democratic president Grover Cleveland) were concerned that celebrating Labor Day on 1 May would further strengthen socialist and anarchist movements in the US, and thought that a September date for the holiday would be less inflammatory. Nevertheless, May Day is always a good day for stochastic wildcat strikes.

In the US, the May 1 labor day was replaced with Loyalty Day: It is a day set aside "for the reaffirmation of loyalty to the United States and for the recognition of the heritage of American freedom". (I lifted this from the second sentence from the Wikipedia article)

We took our Labor Day vacation the week after actual Labor Day. Went up to the family condo for the usual outdoor activities and it’s wild how much quieter the tourist town is on an off-season weekend.

I also fully blacked out after getting out of a hot tub and fell back in. Bruised the crap out of my arms and legs but didn’t hit my head luckily. Take those warnings to never use it alone seriously!
