by orchids in general on nov 8, 2023

so i finally got a plex server set up on a tiny little VPS, which is something i've been meaning to do for a long time. to start, I only bought a $5/month server, which has 25GB of storage (obviously going to need to bump it up soon enough).

quoting milk:

I love cast iron, it does take a lil bit of extra effort to manage (sometimes more than I have on a work night)

my favorite thing about cast iron is people online who genuinely think you're not supposed ...

What I want from the internet - Artcile

by orchids in general on oct 18, 2023

<quoting=NovaVeles postID=991 threadID=148> Just came across this article about how we need to make the internet large again, not just 6 sites that we are locked into. I think this forum is a good example of this idea in action.

i gotta say that this session had a lot more moments where i was just confused about where to go or what to do than literally any other point thus far.

what are the "total_votes" and "rating" properties in the API?

by orchids in community feedback on oct 11, 2023

quoting starbreaker:

Might be a good idea to take these features out if you're not going to implement them.

definitely one of the many items on the to-do list, along with getting rid of the thread icon requirement ...

what are the "total_votes" and "rating" properties in the API?

by orchids in community feedback on oct 10, 2023

it's an idea that isn't quiiiiiiite fleshed out yet. currently you can "vote" on a thread with a score from 1-5 in the API, however as of right now, any user can vote any number of times. Until that part is finished, it won't make its way into the website ...

quoting Eternity:

EDIT: Many games don't have to be as long as they are nowadays, the industry wants eternal, zombie-money cows.

this is a hill i always die on. some of my favorite games are short ones that explore their ...

the train graveyard is my least favorite part of midgar - it's all up from there IMO.

and yeah shinra is what makes this story so good imo. ffvii was really unique in this way. all the other FF games were pretty far removed from reality, with a large ...

The quotes look very nice in my reader now though! They look like quotes in an e-mail. I styled <blockquote> the same way on my site.

JavaScript-powered webrings

by orchids in general on oct 3, 2023

i tried to join some webrings that were powered by JS, but i ended up deciding against it because a lot of the time, they were poorly written scripts, and would error out if it couldn't find the element on the page instead of silently failing, so they ...

i think that's just because you closed the quote with <quote /> instead of <quoting />

<quoting=starbreaker postID=1512 threadID=139> Maybe replace <quoting> with <blockquote> as part of your conversion to standard HTML?

Also, I'd suggest testing the resulting feed by running it through the W3C RSS/Atom validator at https://validator.w3 ...
