Anybody else doing home exercise? I do body weight exercises at the house. It's going well. I could use a way to do cardio while working... thinking about one of those under-desk bikes. Any experiences?

Tell me about your routine

i've actually been going to the gym since mid last year after a long break during peak covid, but mostly because everything i do requires the squat rack and everything else is just supplementary to one main lift (squat, deadlift, benchpress, overhead press).

eventually i really want to invest in a home squat rack. i feel like that and an adjustable dumbell would go a long way.

i've worked my way up to a short circuit of

  • 10x pushups

  • 15x squats

  • ~30s plank

  • 5 dead bugs

and just repeating that set until i get tired of one of the exercises (usually pushups or planks)

and then i would say just going for thinking walks during work if you have the luxury of working remotely or a job that allows it, and trying to motivate myself to riding my expensive covid bicycle purchase more

Right now I'm just testing out some basic bodyweight exercises on a yoga mat at home too, but I'm considering getting some weights because body weight alone has some limits at increasing strength. Not sure if anyone has some DIY hacks to get this done.

I've been exercising with a 16 Kg kettlebell at home the last three months. Mostly doing swings, cleans, snatches, squats and overhead presses with it. There's an instructional video on YouTube called Enter the Kettlebell that teaches pretty much all there is to it.

M / W / F, twice daily, 60 pushups and as many chinups and pull-ups as I can muster. I'm still training up my back. It's going well, but slowly. My diet is... depressing.

Yeah, I don't have a gym membership so I do most/all of my exercise at home.

I've got an adjustable bench, adjustable dumbbells (Powerblocks and Bowflex) from 5-90lbs, power tower (for pull-ups, dips, some core exercises), treadmill, and an Aviron rower.

Yeah, it's a nice one. The games are pretty fun, and it's cool how they are real-time multiplayer. A lot of times I'll just hop on there for a casual row while watching some Youtube videos on the screen.

I feel super nervous when I work out at a Gym, so I try home workout things. I've got a bench and adjustable dumbbells and I gotta say I feel like I can get a lot done with few equipment. However the hardest thing is being consistent. If I don't feel like working out then generally I don't. Getting over the mental part and actually doing the workout is such a killer for me.

I got a "smart trainer" for my bike so I can ride indoors in front of the TV and this has helped me the most. I try to pair whatever I'm watching with riding the bike as my encouragement. It's still not where I need to be but it's better. I don't feel like I can watch TV while I do the dumbbell stuff, so that aspect is also still lacking.

I've got a heavy bag and a set of gloves in my basement for cardio/HIIT. Three minutes of dancing around the bag and punching it, and a minute to rest.

I've also got a barbell and a set of plates for lifting, mostly deadlifts, power cleans, and clean-and-press.

I'm the same. For me, the solution is brevity and simplicity. This means a no frills push-pull-squat routine with body-weight exercises. For example, one set of pushups, then a set of inverted rows, then a set of squats. I'm not built for high volume, so keep to 8-10 reps per set. You can adjust difficulty with exercise variations or by adding weight by wearing a backpack or some such. Because there's only one exercise per movement, I don't rest between sets, so get a degree of cardio thrown in. Pushups, inverted rows, etc. also do a decent job of building core strength. I usually cycle through the exercises three times, and do so two or three times a week. If I'm not in the mood, one set each will do to maintain or make some (albeit slow) progress. Hell, even one set a week is better than nothing and keeps you moving forward (I have even made some progress this way in the past).

The whole thing takes minutes, minutes, I tell ya!

The one caveat: It's quite hard to give your legs a serious workout this way, but, y'know, if your goal is general fitness and strength, who cares?
