From the popular to the more obscure. What are the titles that you recommend to others?

I will kick this off.

The best 3D Sonic game of all time doesn't come from Sega. Sonic Robot Blast 2 is essentially the fans love letter to the blue blur and after 2 years of development it now feels just like an official release from the mid 90's.

From Windows, Mac, Linux. 100% free.

https://www.srb2.org/

And for the technology included, it is built on the Doom Legacy Engine. Really neat to see such an ancient tech pushed this far,.

Disco Elysium, easy and universal recommend.

Sacrifice is another amazing game, but it's about two decades old and so might not be everyone's cuppa.

This seems really cool, and I'm not even a sonic fan. I'll be sure to try it out.

I'm having trouble with games and how long they are, so I'm recommending a couple of my favorite short games:

  • To The Moon (4 Hours - Narrative, light puzzles)

  • Inscryption (12.5 Hours - Tabletop, Narrative)

Stalker Series, Doom/Quake series, Duke Nukem 3D. I really enjoyed Subnautica and more recently I played through The Forest, which was decent.

For multiplayer I mostly play Rust, maybe CS:GO on occasion, Apex Legends but not lately, Action Quake2 mod or TF2 when bored.

Sorry for double post, but I forgot to mention something I played a ton of recently, it's a free game and kind of a huge waste of time but incredible as well. Universal Paperclips

Double posts... now that is something I haven't seen in years! Forums and their ways!

Also Universal Paperclips should be a war crime considering just how addictive it is. ;)

One positive trait I do have it the ability to see addictive behaviors in myself. Universal Paperclips triggered that response so hard! The previous time I had that was when I got a copy of Civilization 3 (?) - played for 5 hours and then immediately uninstalled it never to be played again. Not because it sucked but because it was so good. I knew it would be a massive time sink. Same with Minecraft. It just has that vibe.

recommending Bomb Rush Cyberfunk by team reptile!! its a skating/graffiti game (jetlike?) with a story that got me hooked, it released about a week ago, the soundtrack kicks ass, my favorite character is solace i love him so much, would recommend if you liked jet set radio/jsrf (or Butterflies even)

ive been meaning to talk here more but i kinda dropped off the face of the earth for a bit because ive been so absorbed in the game and its fandom lmao

I'm gonna recommend Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon. It's got everything you need: big fucking robots with big fucking guns.

There isn't much in the way of narrative, what little there is comes as audio without a lot of cinematics, and the mission-based gameplay is suitable for people without a lot of free time. You can fire it up, play a mission, and shut it down. All missions are replayable, and there are some rewards if you practice a mission and get good enough to clear the objectives without taking damage or using a lot of ammo. And, if you want to spend an afternoon tinkering with your mech you certainly can.

this looks cool. I love watching videos of games like this and Parappa the Rappa. They're so cool looking and stylized.

if you like skating games, i'd definitely look up Ollie Ollie world on the switch. It's also got an amazing soundtrack and really good skateboarding mechanics. I play it every time I have to fly.

I will eventually get around to this one because JSR/JSRF are easily in my top 10 of all time games (even if the game play is a little funky at times). I'm just glad to see they picked up where Sega wouldn't go.

There was going to be a JSR 3 on Wii but apparently it didn't get far before being canned.

I really enjoy rimworld, it's like the sims but 2D and with war crimes. Really shows the inner psycopath in you.

I used to enjoy playing horror games, but then I played Darkwood and nothing else comes close to the level of pure dread that game illicits. World is cool as heck, too

My personal favourite is Terra Invicta - the sheer amount of details the devs put into this game is just one of the things that makes it great. Another thing is the physics which is based on realistic physics and not some warp magick. So yes taking 30 years to travel from point Mercuary to Pluto lol happens. Its also the planets are true to what they are made of mostly, and estimated on how much resources there are on each planet.

Is it extreme autistic niche game that is an average paradox game on steroids absolutely and thats what makes it so frickin brilliant.

Space with a lot of factions fighting over different planets and nations in the sol system

space battle above eart's atmosfeer.
