Sup. My name is Rads. I am a former 4chan and 420chan poster and SA lurker (never really wanted to pay the :10bux:... whoops). I've been on a bit of a nostalgia trip as a result of starting Rotting Angels, the imageboard/forum I run. It was originally a basic imageboard, but over time I've been trying to add features to make it less like a imageboard, mostly because I forgot how much I liked forums better. (Don't get me started on modern imageboard culture...)

I know the whole stigma that comes with running a imageboard, but I feel the site is not like most imageboards due to limiting discussion on politics, banning stuff like buzzwords and ragebaiting, and overall trying to keep a fairly friendly atmosphere. If you are interested in checking it out, keep in mind while the site is SFW, there are some NSFW sections.

I discovered you guys from Sheepish Patio, which I discovered from Wapchan, one of the sites I'm crosslinked with. I've been trying to check out more "web revival" sites or whatever, which is the main reason why I decided to branch out over here. I like this place and the vibe it brings, so I'm hoping to stick around. Pleasure to be here!

welcome to the site @rads! what got you wanting to host your own imageboard?

I think it started with a fever dream I had at the beginning of the year. I was browsing this fascinating internet forum with an extremely dated but unique style.

I forgot about it at the time, but around the same time, i decided to start messing around with forum software (ancient copy of phpbb ) on my computer, messing around, I decided to make something inspired by that dream, so I did, and abandoned it.

Back in October, I was messing around on one of my “off” days, so I decided to pick the design back up after stumbling across it on my hard drive. At the time, I didn’t have plans to turn the site into a ACTUAL forum, I was just some dumb self-indulgent thing. I added a few boards based on topics I like and a random board (one of the only NSFW parts of the site) I decided to add a forum software for fun, choosing imageboard software vichan, mainly for it being not completely defenseless from spam (also it was the only software that could work on my testing environment). It’s surprisingly a very versatile software once you understand how to use it and as someone who has had little to no programming skills, I’ve learned a ton about PHP and twig in the two months i’ve had the site up haha

anyway, while I was testing vichan to make sure it worked, I had the idea to put it online and see if anyone would even like it. My friend is graciously letting me host the site through his server, which I might add is not even his own, it’s a dedicated server owned by a hosting service, so if the site ends up lasting longer than 3-4 months, I think i’ll start investing in a better server cause I don’t have too much money right now. I posted links to the site across some imageboards that didn’t seem like complete garbage, and people surprisingly started stopping by and posting. We aren’t the most active, but the little community I have so far i’m really proud of. I do it for fun, I think ever since i touched a computer, i’ve always liked messing around making up fake site designs in html and css, and this is sorta the next step up from that. I want the site to end up like some sort of frankensteins monster of imageboard and forum. I have tons of plans for improvements and new cool stuff coming in the next year or so, so keep an eye on it if you are inclined

the last site i built was a cocktail site, where you entered the liquor you had and it would give you cocktails you could make. that site crawled so this site could run. keep it up!
