Soooo.... After waiting some months, the brand-new web hosting Nekoweb is launched! (after it was in development for 2 years tho).

I liked this until I saw that you were providing updates and soliciting feedback via Discord.

Well, I use discord for 2 reasons:

1. My favorite servers are there.

2. There is not really a good alternative AFAIK - IRC does not support image upload, emojis etc, what discord does have.

Do you know any good alternative then?

i really love the visual aesthetic of nekoweb, and honestly if they provide more at a free tier than neocities i might just switch lol. the main thing that keeps me is the fact that i have already established my neocities pretty nicely. if anything i might just host a mirror of my site there.

Nothing wrong with your favorite chatrooms being on Discord; it's just not for me.

I wasn't even thinking of IRC. I prefer RSS for receiving updates, and if I want to send somebody feedback I'll try to email them.

To Discord? What about a forum like this one? Most forum software comes with image support, and emoji is just a matter of text input; macOS lets you use a special key combination to access built-in emoji search, and for everybody else there's Emojipedia.

Hmmm... RSS looks interesting, maybe I need to start using it.

Yeah, i've meant discord. The thing is, I want to use this forum on my iPad, but since (old) safari does not support it, I can use this forum as frequent as I want to.

Also, I wanted to try XMPP on the same iPad, and I can't seem to find a good client for iOS.

my initial reaction though is they're not really putting their best foot forward with their website. i know neocities obviously has been around for a while, but the landing page looks so much better, I'd trust the stability more there than nekoweb.

The nice thing is that nothing stops anyone from just using both. Maybe it takes a little bit of effort to remember, but the hard part about updating a site is the actual update, not remembering to send out a notification.

Oh, so you're the developer of nekoweb? Really interesting opportunity to talk to you then.

How did you get so many people interested in and talking about your web service? I wish I was nearly as good at that as you!

i think @dean just runs that wiki site, but he's not the creator.

it's funny though I've been seeing that https://wiki.nekoweb.org getting shared around a lot, so i bet a lot of people have that same thought.

ah, that makes sense. Well nekoweb certainly does come up anywhere there is an indie web project online. And I wish my projects had that power.
