i love to watch me a movie where people are simply not having a good time

what's something else like these? i don't mind gore or jumpscares but i get enought of that in real life.

i think the only genuine psych horror films i love are the jordon peele movies (Get Out, Us). haven't seen Nope

but as far as general psych thrillers, that's probably my fav genre

I just watched the shining within the past couple years, and it holds up. jack nicholson goes to house-sit a hotel while the staff are on holiday and he uses the time to write a book and his mind just unravels.

midsommar is a newer thriller about kids going on college vacation and some crazy drug-induced shit happens

se7en explores the seven deadly sins and a murdered who's theming his murders around them

and shutter island which i also just saw had me totally invested and had a really good payoff at the end

saw nope in theaters, it was great! didn't find it scary, but delightfully weird and evil. maybe i should check out his other films too.

midsommar i didn't see yet for whatever reason. it seems promising.

i'm also thinking a bit about suspiria, whether it's the original or the thom yorke version. anyone seen either?

The VVitch was INCREDIBLE!! Truly unsettling. I’m all for other titles; what are some of your favourites?

I thought Hereditary was remarkable. It's an earlier film by the director of Midsommar.

It Follows is a dread-inducing modern classic.

The Invitation was simple yet quite unsettling.

Doctor Sleep was better than I expected.

And I also loved both The VVitch and Color Out Of Space (2019)...

I like the classification of "a movie where people are simply not having a good time".

Green Room (2015) fits that perfectly for me.

The Lighthouse (2019) also does, in a way more insane way. Same director as The VVitch (2015).

Martyrs (2008) is similarly insane, but it veers off from the theme I'm having in mind right now.

Prisoners (2013) is more of a thriller but I assure you, nobody's having a good time in that movie.

Lastly, the first part of Nocturnal Animals (2016) gave me those vibes too, but the whole movie is way more than that. Still great.

Second The Lighthouse. That's one of my favourite movies of all time.

I don't know if this exactly classifies as psych horror but David Lynch's Eraserhead fucked me up for a long time when I saw it. The industrial atmosphere that movie creates is unparalleled

Some brilliant films in here.

Get Out got me started on a peel binge but I can't agree on nope. For me it was too ambitious and far fetched. I suppose that's art sometimes though isnt it? :)

Jacob's Ladder is older (1990) but well worth a look. Ideas from this film made it into Silent Hill the games.

And a super old note: Rosemary's Baby (1968) is great, and I go back to it every now and then. I like how it's chilling without having any visual horror elements. Lots of characters that give off an uneasy vibe.

It's pretty old now but the original Twilight Zone (1959) series has many episodes that are along the lines of psychological horror. I've been running through them and they hold up pretty well IMO!

The 1977 one is a great old school atmospheric horror, has an amazing build up and use of scenery, highly recommended
