i just finished the movie Air, since it's now on amazon and it was definitely an interesting movie, but part of me thinks it was made almost solely to piggyback on The Last Dance's success.
The Last Dance was massively popular because it was really well directed and written, and getting the majority of the Bulls players along with the other great players made for really great interviews. on top of that, I think it gave everyone something to talk about during covid. it was cool to get a glimpse into that era of basketball that I was too young to remember, but was obviously one of the most fun times to watch the sport.
Then I watched Air and literally all i'm thinking the entire time is how sensationalized it is - Jordan signing to Nike was probably a big event for Nike and it obviously changed the way people think about wearing basketball shoes casually, but wow it's really hard to root for Nike and see this as an underdog story when you know they're one of the biggest companies in the world right now and Phil Knight is one of the richest people in the world.
anybody else see this? i'm really glad i didn't get a ticket to see it in theaters
