Elden Ring on playstation but it's so hard lol. my first dark souls game. i really want to finish it though

I still haven't finished this. And since you never played the original Dark Souls, here's a bit of what you missed.

Helldivers 2, it rules.

Except I can't play right now because my PS+ sub expired yesterday, and I can't afford to resub until I get paid tomorrow thanks to some unexpected car repairs.

Finished Fallout 97 recently. It was quite the journey.

Picked up Knights of the Old Republic 2 from the may 4th sale, pretty excited to finally meet the infamous kreia that i here so much about.

Entropy Zero, Deus Ex: Invisible war, and Postal 2 Paradise lost have been holding my interest lately.

I'm almost done with Hollow Knight, got to the final boss but there's apparently a secret ending you can unlock with some DLC and secrets I haven't found yet. I love metrovanias but they require so much time out of me that I've put down Ori and the Blind Forest for a bit.

I also picked up Baldur's Gate 3 recently over my school's Spring break, haven't had a chance to get real far but I plan to play it a lot now that the semester's over!

Just got a copy of the remastered Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord for PS5. Still on the first level of the dungeon, but I've gotten my dudes to level 4.

Last year I managed to finally push through all of Xenosaga, so recently I've been feeling like the time is right for a Xenogears replay.

I'm also playing El Dorado Gate, which really caught me off guard with its sheer quality for such an obscure, unknown game. It's 7 volumes long, and iirc at the time they were released 2 months apart from each other, so I thought I'd approach them that way, as if I was playing them on release.

been playing this new ocarina of time romhack called ultimate trial. super fun! it's arguably the most impressive OoT romhack to date. with it's "rogue-lite" inspired gameplay loop, it's sure to give even a seasoned zelda player a good challenge. tons of custom locations, music, NPCs and items to unlock. i'm about halfway through right now. if you're a fan of the n64 zelda games definitely check it out

GRIP: Combat Racing is 90% off on Steam so I begged offered a deal for someone in my friend circles to get it for me for a piece of art. Five hours later, I feel like the rubber has kind of worn off so to say. As much crap as I gave Alicia Online, the large variety in the weaponry — from straight up fireballs to dark mists obscuring the screen and shackles that prevent jumping — the interactions between them, your ability to 'spec' into one or the other via stats, and the semi-predictable placement of them depending on your position in the pack made it pretty exciting. GRIP has none of that.

The racing is great, the combat is not.

Picked up stalker from a recent sale, have it in backlog for the time being. I want to read roadside picnic and watch tarkovskis stalker film before i play it so i can have the extra context.

Finished kotor 2 recently. I thought it was neat. The story feels a bit more grounded compared to the previous one which mostly felt somewhat cartoony at points, and the entire "jedi being severed from the force has to cope with losing a major part of what defines them" is a level of depth I never would have expected from any star wars story. Last jedi is probably the only other story I can think of that has these specific themes of whether the force is worth saving or destroying. the opening dragged on, and i didnt find most of the characters as intresting as the first but it was still a fun experience.

replaying deus ex with the shifter mod which improves the weapons and gets rid of most of the clunkiness. Also playing through last of us, entropy zero 2, and pikuniku on switch.

those games are super nostalgic for me even though I never owned any and instead would just watch my friends play. I did put as ass ton of hours into Medal of Honor (2010) even though that game was super sub-par

Yesterday I started Doom: Eternal and of course the second I start playing it, they announce the new one dropping next year, so I really got to finish it by then...hopefully. The game is unbelievable already and the music is just :chefs-kiss:

have you watched this video:

He talks about how Ocarina of Time could have been a much better game if they focused more on adding enemies like the Iron Knuckle enemies you fight at the end of the game. I'm assuming the romhack has more of those kinds of encounters?

that video was great, he has a lot of valid points. i think nintendo established an amazing battle system with z-targeting, but left something to be desired with the enemy designs. while the ultimate trial does use a lot of the enemies from the original game, for instance the "child trial" has sections based on areas in the original game like deku tree, dodongos cavern, jabu etc. so it has enemies from those areas, but it's also introduced new, truly challenging enemies like the Grimstalker... that fight was difficult but so rewarding. i know it's a very cliche thing to say, but it's akin to Dark Souls. without spoiling anything, i will say that fight is not part of a trial and is instead found by exploring. but yes, the ultimate trial romhack does indeed have more engaging and challenging encounters, though at first it's a lot of the easy OG enemies to get you into the swing of it all. i'm still only about halfway through it myself (still haven't touched the hero trial) so there's probably other new enemies i haven't seen yet.

it's nice too cause it's split into two main gameplay styles - you have the combat areas (trials, arena, etc.) and then the main hubworld has NPCs you can interact with for sidequests which you can acquire items from. the trials scale in difficulty and size from child, adult and hero. when you're in a trial, you don't receive any recovery/health drops so you need to come prepared (or just git gud). you get rupees from defeating enemies, which you keep when you die/finish a trial, and can use them in the hubworld shops to buy equipment (or heart containers). speaking of the equipment in the game, they've added quite a few custom items (not gonna spoil any) and even added a system where you can upgrade said items. a lot of the items can be used for multiple purposes as well. if you're into the kind of grindy dungeon-crawler style gameplay loops and are familiar with the N64 Zelda combat system it's an incredibly fun experience. makes me feel like a kid again playing it.

i also forgot, they did add a "difficulty" toggle in the pause menu, but really all it does is modify how much damage you take.

that sounds fun actually. if i was making a ROM hack to make a game feel more like Dark Souls, ocarina of time wouldn't be the first thing that came to mind haha.

maybe i'll check it out
